2015 Volkswagen Golf Launch Edition Priced at $18,815

When the seventh-generation 2015 Volkswagen Golf arrives in U.S. showrooms this August, it will not only offer more space, more equipment, and better fuel efficiency, but also a lower starting price.

We recently reported on Volkswagen’s grand plans for the new Golf here in the U.S., and the aggressive $2000 price drop for the 2015 Volkswagen Golf Launch Edition reflects the German automaker’s hit-the-ground-running mission. While the outgoing 2014 Golf two-door began at $20,815 including destination, the limited-run Golf Launch Edition will start at $18,815. The Launch Edition, which comes only as a two-door, comes equipped with VW’s new TSI 1.8-liter turbo inline-four engine, a five-speed manual gearbox, 15-inch steel wheels with covers, a touchscreen sound system with satellite radio, Bluetooth, iPod integration, and manual-operated cloth seats.

The base price for the standard two-door 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI S is $1000 more at $19,815 with the manual transmission, while the six-speed automatic adds $1100. A four-door Golf S with the automatic transmission bumps up the price an additional $600, and features power seats. Compared to the Launch Edition, the base Golf S includes aluminum-alloy wheels, leatherette upholstery, a leather-wrapped shifter and parking brake, the VW Car-Net connected car services, and a multifunction steering wheel.

The 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI S with Sunroof models come only with four doors, with a $21,815 starting price with the manual transmission. It includes all standard features from the Golf TSI S, but makes available a $995 LED and Bi-Xenon headlight package, as well as a forward collision warning and park-assist package for $695.

Middle of the pack comes the 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI SE at $25,315, including destination. An automatic transmission and four doors is the only configuration at this trim level, but 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, a cold weather package, automatic headlights, rear-view camera, and Fender audio system are included.

A fully decked-out 2015 Volkswagen Golf TSI SEL raises the cost to $27,815. Buyers will get 18-inch wheels, navigation, automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, power sport seats, and ambient interior lighting. All 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI models include VW’s revised EA288 2.0-liter turbodiesel engine and come as four-door hatchbacks. Both six-speed manual and $1100 six-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmissions are available for all TDI trim levels.

The base Golf TDI S starts at $22,815, which is a major $3000 dip beneath the outgoing 2014 Golf TDI's base price of $26,020. That will help more buyers access the diesel powertrain, which was previously positioned well into the premium end of the Golf range. Mirroring the equipment in its gas counterparts, the Golf TDI SE and SEL will start at $26,315 and $28,815, respectively.

With more competitive pricing and a full technical overhaul, the Mexico-built 2015 Volkswagen Golf might finally have a shot at mass-market appeal here in the U.S. It is scheduled to go on sale this August after the sportier GTI arrives in June. Pricing for the 2015 Volkswagen GTI ranges from $25,215 to $30,415.

I love it.  I'd buy one if I needed one, just as I happily bought a 2012 Golf.  I figure they'll be up to the eighth generation by the time I buy another Golf, and I'm sure that one will be even better!

As a previous owner of Golf and Passat I say at with this price it will not sell well. In few months it will have price drop otherwise it will sell as bad as current Golf or 2012 Routan.Customers in here are not stupid and will not pay premium for Mecican-German hatchback car.
Nobody wants manual transmission in here. With automatic it is grand more, at 20k.I can buy Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima or Hyundai Sonata for less money, all vehicles of higher caliber and value.
Golf must be the least expensive car in VW line up in order to sell well. Otherwise customers will continue to pick up Jetta not to be a laugh of the neighborhood.
