A new, highly-anticipated Mercedes-Benz sports coupe will be coming this fall, and a new teaser tells us that it will officially be called the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. This new model essentially replaces the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, but will be much smaller than before to compete with sports cars like the Porsche 911.
We’ve already reported on many details of this car from spy shots and conversations with executives, but these teaser videos and photos confirm that the AMG GT will wear a slung-back profile that's familiar from the SLS, with a long-hood and short rear deck. The rear of the car also slopes back dramatically for a fastback silhouette that tapers into a rounded rear bustle. Although all of this styling is on a smaller scale than on the outgoing SLS, the new AMG GT looks to be just as muscular as before, if not more so. We've also already seen the interior of the AMG GT, which displays the same flowing theme as other new Mercedes-Benz models like the 2015 C-Class.
Under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz AMG GT, the company’s new 4.0-liter turbocharged V-8 is expected to make around 450 hp to compete with the base and S versions of the Porsche 911, which make 400 hp and 425 hp, respectively. It’s likely that an up-rated version of the AMG GT, possibly called the Black Series, will make over 550 hp to go up against the Porsche 911 Turbo and Turbo S models. If the teaser video released by Mercedes-Benz is any indication, the AMG GT should provide a particularly menacing engine note and exhaust rumble.
Look for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT to debut this fall either at the Paris auto show in October or at the Los Angeles auto show in November. Until then, stay tuned for more information to trickle out about this new sports car.
