2015 Ford Mustang Orders in Europe "Overwhelming"

#Ford, #Ford

Think the Mustang is an all-American car that doesn't appeal to foreign drivers? Think again: demand for the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang in Europe is already "overwhelming." When Ford of Europe opened order books for customers to reserve the first 500 Mustangs headed to the continent, the company reportedly received 9300 reservations.

Until now, the Ford Mustang has never been sold in Europe; buyers there who wanted the car had to pay to ship on from the States, and also had to pony up high import taxes. In 2012, however, Ford announced that, as part of its One Ford product consolidation program, it would soon start officially selling the Mustang in Europe.

As part of a promotion, the 2015 Ford Mustang order books opened at the start of a European soccer game last weekend. Ford had all 500 reservations taken within the first 30 seconds of the game. By the end of the two-hour match, more than 9300 people had registered interest in buying the 2015 Ford Mustang. The 500 cars will be divided among 20 European countries, and 130 of them will reportedly be right-hand-drive versions destined for the U.K.

"We knew there was huge excitement building for the new Ford Mustang coming to Europe, but the response during the Champions League final was overwhelming," Ford of Europe market vice president Roelant de Waard said in a statement.

European customers who reserved one of the first 2015 Ford Mustang models headed to Europe had only a few option choices. Coupes were offered in Race Red while convertibles were Magnetic Silver, and buyers could pick from the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder and 5.0-liter V-8 engines, but not the 3.7-liter V-6 that will also be available in the U.S. Standard equipment on the first 500 cars comprises heated and cooled leather seats, parking sensors, 19-inch wheels, and MyFord Touch navigation.

Here in the U.S., the 2015 Ford Mustang goes on sale later this summer from $24,425.

So... $20,425 after the sale that you know will take place at or near the same time now and at the move them out sale, to make room for the 2015's. I can wait for the sales no problem. four large for a poor man is a lot of $$$ to save during the sales event. In my eyes the new stang is the beginning of a true sports car first time in Fords History.

Equivalent to BMW and Audi in the world market?  WTH?  Put the crack pipe down, please.

Can we get beyond journalism by company press release?  Were these 9300 non-binding, zero-cost 'expressions of interest'?  This reads like Ford took just 500 real orders.

Ford cars are world class and are respected around the world.  They are equivalent to BMW and Audi in the world market.
