If you want to own the first retail 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, be prepared to open your checkbook wide. The first production 2015 Z06 will be auctioned on April 12 by Barrett-Jackson in Palm Beach, Florida, and all proceeds will be donated to the Karmanos Cancer Institute. Last year, General Motors donated proceeds from the auction of the first 2014 Chevrolet Corvette convertible to Karmanos and raised $1 million.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 made its public debut earlier this year at the 2014 Detroit auto show. Compared to the standard Corvette Stingray, the Z06 adds an LT4 supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine good for 625 hp and 635 lb-ft of torque, an optional eight-speed automatic transmission, more aggressive styling, stronger Brembo brakes, wider fenders to accommodate the wider tires, and functional aerodynamic add-ons. All of that helped a prototype Z06 set a new lap record at GM's Milford Proving Ground test track.

Although a price has not been announced for the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, its track-ready upgrades will likely engender a considerable hike over the sticker price of a standard Corvette Stingray. That car, incidentally, also recently saw its base price rise $2000 in response to strong customer demand for the new Corvette coupe and convertible. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe now starts at $53,995, including destination, while the convertible is $58,995.
GM has a long history of donating new performance cars to auction houses and donating the proceeds to charity. In addition to the aforementioned Corvette convertible, in recent years GM donated a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 and COPO Camaro to Barrett-Jackson to benefit Detroit’s Cornerstone Schools and the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans, respectively; and the very first production 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray was auctioned to benefit Detroit's College for Creative Studies.
