After just edging out the Honda Civic for the top spot in January 2014's compact auto sales race, the Toyota Corolla had a far easier time in February 2014. The Corolla was the compact best-seller again with 25,299 sold, putting some distance between itself and the second-best-seller. The Chevrolet Cruze upset the Civic last month, jumping from third to second with 21,836 sold, while the Honda was relegated to third place, with 21,575 sold.
It was more of the same for the rest of the class. The fourth-place Hyundai Elantra had a good month with 16,393 sold, just beating out the soon-to-be-updated Ford Focus, which slots in in fifth-place, with 15,926 sold. Sitting in sixth place was the Nissan Sentra with 12,339 sold.
Seventh place went to the combined sales of the Volkswagen Jetta sedan and Sportwagen, with 11,908 sold. VW too, reportedly has update plans in store – the Jetta will reportedly get a mid-cycle update this year, while the new Sportwagen hits the U.S. late this year, but as part of the Golf family.
The new 2014 Mazda3 trailed behind with 7286 sold. Rounding out the top 10 was the combined sales of the Subaru Impreza and out-going Subaru Impreza WRX/WRX STI with 6360 sold, while the Kia Forte came in just behind Subaru, with 5517 sold.
Rounding out the segment was the Dodge Dart, with 4888 sold, and the out-going Volkswagen Golf, with 1649 sold.
