2015 Porsche Boxster GTS, Cayman GTS Announced

The Porsche Boxster and Porsche Cayman creep ever closer to the performance potential of the vaunted 911 with the addition of new GTS models. The Boxster GTS and Cayman GTS boast more power, additional standard equipment, and a different style than the Boxster S and Cayman S on which they are based.Porsche already offers GTS versions of the Cayenne SUV and the Panamera sedan.

In both the Porsche Boxster GTS and the Cayman GTS, the 3.4-liter flat-six engine sees its output rise by 14 hp and 7 lb-ft of torque, for totals of 330 hp and 273 lb-ft in the Boxster, and 340 hp and 280 lb-ft in the Cayman. Whether customers order a six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission, Porsche bundles the Sport Chrono package, which includes electrically controlled transmission mounts and launch control, as standard. The Boxster GTS hits 60 mph in a claimed 4.4 seconds and manages a top speed of 174 mph, while the Cayman GTS does the deed in 4.3 seconds and hits 177 mph.

Other upgrades include 20-inch Carrera S wheels, blacked-out headlights with the Porsche Dynamic Light System, a sports exhaust with black tips, Alcantara for the interior trim and steering wheel, and GTS badges stitched into the headrests. Porsche Active Suspension Management is standard, along with redesigned front and rear fascias, all helping the GTS models stand apart from the regular Boxster S and Cayman S.

Such an extensive list of enhancements doesn't come for free, and the 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS and Porsche Cayman GTS cost a fair bit more than the models on which they are based. In the case of the open-top Boxster, the GTS's $74,495 list price (with destination) is a $10,200 premium over a Boxster S; the Cayman GTS starts at $76,195, up $11,400 over an S model. Both cars go on sale in the U.S. this summer.
