The 2015 Chrysler 200 will sit toward the top of its class in terms of fuel economy, according to the company’s announcement today. EPA testing reveals that the car, when equipped with its base 2.4-liter inline-four engine, is rated for 23/36 mpg (city/highway).
The 2015 Chrysler 200, which made its debut earlier this year at the 2014 Detroit auto show, mates its base 184-hp four-cylinder engine to a new nine-speed automatic transmission. Moving up to the 295-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine drops fuel economy ratings to 19/32 mpg, while adding all-wheel-drive to the V-6 engine further lowers those numbers to 18/29 mpg.
These figures put the 2015 Chrysler 200 toward the top of the midsize sedan segment in terms of efficiency -- at least in four-cylinder guise. Compared to other models with automatic or continuously variable transmissions, the 200 matches the Honda Accord in highway efficiency, trails the Nissan Altima, yet it beats the Toyota Camry and the all-wheel-drive Subaru Legacy. In the city, however, the Chrysler 200 is the least efficient of these five midsize sedans.
The front-wheel-drive 2015 Chrysler 200 V-6 is likewise midpack among its rivals that offer six-cylinder engines, besting the Altima, Legacy, and Camry in highway efficiency, but lagging behind the Accord. In the city, the V-6-powered 200 is second-worst, after the Subaru Legacy's thirsty 3.6-liter flat-six engine.
Pricing for the 2015 Chrysler 200 starts at $22,695, after destination, while a fully-loaded 200C AWD costs $38,455.For a full breakdown of how the 2015 Chrysler 200 compares to its competition in terms of fuel efficiency, see the table below.
