2015 Volkswagen Tiguan Spied

The next-generation Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to arrive later this year, and our spy photographers have already snapped some shots of a pre-production mule out testing. Although its shape resembles that of the upcoming Volkswagen Touran small minivan, the mule’s shorter length and taller stance compared to other Touran prototypes we’ve seen suggest that this is a disguised Tiguan.

As European bureau chief Georg Kacher predicted in late 2012, the forthcoming Tiguan will be based on VW’s MQB architecture. By the looks of the mule, the new Tiguan will perhaps be larger than the current Tiguan — expect greater clearance, a longer wheelbase and overall length, more cargo space, and a taller greenhouse. The Tiguan will share its platform with the MQB-based Volkswagen Golf, with which it will also share a range of gas and diesel powertrains. A 1.8-liter turbo-four will be the base engine for the Golf here in the U.S., positioned below a 2.0-liter TDI and the GTI’s 2.0-liter turbo-four. At the top of the line, we can look forward to a Tiguan R which will use the same brawny 290-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine as in the Golf R, capable of 280 lb-ft of torque.

The five-seat Volkswagen Tiguan will be available with either front- or all-wheel-drive. The all-wheel-drive system will be the same Haldex 5 setup used on the 2015 Golf R. The car's exterior design will most likely draw its inspiration from the Volkswagen CrossBlue concept. A Touareg replacement will also take cues from the CrossBlue concept, but that full-size seven-seat SUV will be based on VW’s MLB architecture.

Still teasing us with the diesel option.  C'mon, VW - bring it.

Looks like the minivan most crossover drivers need.

It is adequately comely enough to wear the VW badge.

Keep in mind this is a test mule. They just slapped an available vehicle body so they can test the chassis and drivetrain. There must be major changes if they could not make a current Tiguan's body fit to the chassis!
Yikes! Looks like a modernized Colt Vista.
Nice minivan.
The R credentials sound impressive, but it really has a soccer mom look that's awful.
@Seawolf2  Well said, couldn't agree more.
