Feature Flick: 2015 Ford F-150 Shreds Snow

The Ford F-150 is the nation’s best-selling vehicle because of its reputation for versatility and durability. Owners want to know that they can count on their pickup when the going gets tough, and this latest video from Ford should quell any fears that the new 2015 Ford F-150 can get the job done even in brutal winter conditions.

As brutal as winter has been for us here in Ann Arbor, it can be easy to forget that we are among the most southerly cities in the state of Michigan. Ford decided pit its new 2015 F-150 through a series of tests on slick snow and ice in northern Michigan, where the outside temperature was hovering just under zero degrees Fahrenheit.

Apparently the sub-zero air was a bit too balmy for what the Ford engineers had in mind, and the 2015 Ford F-150 started up without a hitch in a temperature-controlled cold box at about -30 degrees Fahrenheit. The new truck got going anyway, sliding its way through braking, acceleration, incline traction, stability, and ride quality exercises on snow and ice. Ford’s goal was to create a balanced truck that stays controlled and capable, yet still enjoyable and exciting for the driver to handle in any weather conditions. Judging by the billowing gusts of powder swirling on all sides, we’d agree that it looks like a screaming good time.

The new 2015 Ford F-150 made waves after its debut at this year’s Detroit auto show. It is approximately 700 pounds lighter than its predecessor thanks to greater use of high-strength steel and aluminum body parts, without sacrificing strength or toughness. A new 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 joins the lineup underneath the existing 3.5-liter twin turbo V-6, alongside a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V-6 and the range-topping 5.0-liter V-8.

I don't know if Ford still offers it, but my old '85 Bronco had limited slip differentials front and rear (optional) making it very difficult to get stuck!! Great vehicle in winter and in mud! The only downside was it never met a gas station it didn't like!!!!
