The 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 sports car is subject to what the automaker calls an "inspection," or what might more accurately be termed a recall. All 785 units of the car sold so far worldwide are affected.
Porsche recommends that 911 GT3 owners stop using their cars and immediately arrange to have Porsche collect them and take them to the nearest dealership. After "engine damage" caused two cars in Europe (one in Italy, one in Switzerland) to catch fire, Porsche issued a stop-sale on the 911 GT3 earlier this week. The company asserts that no accidents occurred and nobody was injured as a result of the fires. Porsche says that, "internal studies to determine the cause of the engine damage have not been completed yet."

"We have asked our dealers to stop selling the 911 GT3 until we can analyze reports of engine problems in a very small number of vehicles," Porsche product communications manager Nick Twork told us yesterday.
The 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 is a high-performance, track-oriented model that comes with a 3.8-liter flat-six engine rated for 469 hp. Other track-ready features include 20-inch center-locking wheels, an adjustable carbon-fiber rear wing, and a three-part front splitter. The only transmission choice is a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic. Pricing for the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3 starts at $131,395, after destination.
