Feature Flick: 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo Runs The Standing Mile

For the latest installment of standing-mile acceleration runs, road test editor Chris Nelson takes a 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo down the runway to see just how fast it can go in 5280 feet. It's the second time we've run a car at Oscoda-Wurtsmith airport in Northern Michigan, after previously hitting 170.1 mph in an Audi RS7.

The 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo is significantly less powerful than the autobahn-storming Audi, though, with just 350 hp from its 3.7-liter V-6 engine. A six-speed manual transmission helps direct power to the rear wheels, which are 19-inch RAYS units wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S001 high-performance tires. The 2014 model year also brought some mild visual changes to the 370Z Nismo, in the form of dark grey-painted spoilers, side sills, and mirrors; as well as red-painted brake calipers; a leather-wrapped shift knob, and an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel.

Though not as fast as an Audi RS7, the 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo proved no slouch in the standing mile. After getting off the line with just a hint of wheelspin, the car powers past the mile-marker cones in 35.9 seconds at 139.9 mph. That's a full 5.4 seconds longer than it took the RS7 to accomplish that feat -- but it's not really a fair comparison when you consider the Audi packs a 560-hp V-8 engine.

Want to go this fast in just one mile? A 2014 Nissan 370Z Nismo coupe will set you back just $43,810 after destination. To see the car in action, check out the video below.
