Subaru has unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon the latest Subaru WRX STI race car, which will enter the Nürburgring 24-hour race in Germany this coming June. At this year’s day-long race, the Subaru WRX STI race car will be chasing Subaru’s third win within the 2.0-liter turbo class since 2012.
Photos of the Subaru WRX STI race car have also been posted to Subaru’s Facebook page, providing a possible preview of the upcoming 2015 WRX STI production car set to debut at the 2014 Detroit auto show. Although images of the upcoming 2015 Subaru WRX STI are not yet available, it looks like can expect a similar shape to that of the standard 2015 Subaru WRX. The automaker confirmed that it will introduce the production, road-legal WRX STI on Tuesday, January 14.
The STI race car sports performance aerodynamics all over, including the classic deep-intake hood scoop, huge front diffuser, flared fenders, front and rear fender scoops, and pronounced side skirts. It isn’t yet clear which among these upgrades are unique to the STI race car, nor do we know whether we will see them in some shape or form on the production 2015 Subaru WRX STI, but we will hopefully learn more leading up to the production car’s reveal at the 2014 Detroit auto show.
