Cadillac Elmiraj-Inspired Flagship Sedan Spied

Cadillac is working on a large, high-end luxury flagship sedan, as evidenced by these images from our spy photographer. The Cadillac flagship, which is codenamed 01SL, could go on sale as soon as the third quarter of 2015. It would compete with cars like the Audi A8, BMW 7 Series, and Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Based on General Motors' rear-wheel-drive Omega platform, the Cadillac flagship sedan is a large vehicle with an extremely long wheelbase, befitting its luxury pretensions. The car is likely largely inspired by the Cadillac Elmiraj two-door concept shown at Pebble Beach in 2013. Although reports suggested Cadillac would build a four-door coupe, the angled rear window and stubby trunk on this prototype result ina more traditional three-box sedan shape. Cadillac's familiar chrome-trimmed grille is visible through the camouflage tape out front, along with vertical LED running lights that echo the headlights of the Cadillac ATS, CTS, and XTS sedans. Our source also says that a true coupe and a convertible could follow in 2016.

Though the Cadillac Elmiraj concept used a twin-turbo 4.5-liter V-8 engine good for about 500 hp, there's no clear indication whether that powertrain will make it to production. Cadillac said the V-8 was derived from the twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-6 engine already offered in the CTS and XTS, although that 410-hp V-6 itself is also reportedly a strong possibility for a production flagship. An automatic transmission will be standard, and could have anywhere from eight to ten forward speeds.

As for positioning, all indications are that this 01SL/ Cadillac flagship sedan will be slightly more reasonably priced than the planned six-figure, ultra-luxury halo sedan that was to be codenamed the Cadillac 01LL; That model has reportedly been put on hold. Nonetheless, with 2014 Cadillac XTS pricing starting at $45,525, it wouldn't be a stretch to see this new Cadillac flagship start around or even above the $70,000 mark.

As for names, Cadillac has trademarked the "LTS" badge, which would better fit the brand's current pattern of three-letter nomenclature (the Escalade is the only exception) than the Elmiraj badge applied to the concept car.

I really hope an Elmiraj coupe follows this.

Just do this thing ... will be amazing if Caddy can have an American large luxury car ... again.  With kids on street corners saying ... hey guys, here comes a Fleetwood, just like we did in the 70's.

What new luxury RWD unibody cost $70k like full size suv. I wonder Caddy can afford budget?

Rear wheel drive full size luxury car in 21 century?

Whatever Cadillac decides on naming their new sedan won't really matter as it'll share some genetics with the platform used by the ATS and CTS which means it's going to be a world class touring sedan, the new car might use whatever engine the upcoming CTS-V will and means the possibility of a variant of the LT4 or an all-new twin-turbo V8 as well as be matched with the 8-speed automatic in the 2015 Corvette Stingray Z06 which can handle up to 734 lb-ft of torque.

The camouflage makes it look gargantuan. I'm assuming once it's exposed, it will look less like a land yacht; the S-Class et. al don't look as big in person as they really are.
Hopefully Cadillac puts a little more emphasis on the luxury for this one. People buying a car of this size aren't looking for a canyon carver, and the CTS and ATS are little too edgy, according to MT and C/D. This needs to be softer and more cosseting, but still have excellent body control.

build it and they will come

Looks like a Chrysler 300

I like ZTS, although that name could also be reserved for a Z4/Boxster/F-Type-fighting roadster...

It looks like, similarly to the XTS, this Caddy has its fixed side windows on the C-pillars rather than in the doors. I'm liking the proportions. As for a name...QTS.

Please for the love of Bill Durant please throw away the 3 letter designations forevermore! We are not mechanical robots like the Hun. We are like the Italians and the Brits. Our cars have soul and deserve a name. Here let me give you an idea. Even if you dont agree with the names support the idea. Guys if you agree on any level please give me some props here.
ELR = Cimarron ( pun intended)
ATS = Calais, Calais Coupe

CTS = Deville, Deville Coupe, Deville  SporTourer (wagon)XTS =  Brougham
SRX = FleetwoodEscalade =  Escalade

(S-class sedan) = El Miraj or Seville  ( please note the name El Miraj was used on a Deville based Cadillac ElCamino in the 1970s which I think really makes this choice potentially tacky). The best choice however I think would be to pick a famed and beloved historic race track and Christen the sedan with the name.

(S-class coupe) = Eldorado
(Rolls Killer)  = Biarritz or follow the same pattern and find a beloved American historical race course and name the care after it.
Thanks for indulging me.  - Scott

Its probably going to be built in Oshawa Ontario. It will take over the Camaro line after it gets moved to Lansing Mich.

If it's based on and looks like the Elmiraj then- Elmiraj

Looks a lot like the chrysler 300. Yes it will be RWD. There will be a Buick Model and the next Chevy SS Will also use this platform. Look for a V8 around 4.5L to power it.
Walter Losey
Call it a Fleetwood, but I can see them calling it a ZTS. Or LTS.. The name hasn't been finalized yet. This will not replace the XTS, it will stay in production.

Elmiraj, or maybe even allante!!! Lol!

Please do not call it the LTS... call it something special... if you use LTS then ADD something else, such as LTS - Fleetwood, or something from the history of previous Cadillacs.  I know there is going to be a push to reestablish the Flagship as a new beginning, but LTS is lame... and what does it mean, Luxury Touring Sedan... come'on.... can you not come up with a name that reaks of elegance, history, tradition and excellence.... this car is special, the name should be too... a name people want to say... do not use DeVille.... I just think thats name that reminds people of their grand parents Cadillacs.... Find a new name, something special...
John Ceragioli
Perhaps it should be called Le Brick!
