2015 Kia K900

First unveiled at the 2013 Los Angeles auto show, the 2015 Kia K900 will enter the U.S. market this year as the Korean automaker’s flagship rear-wheel drive sedan. As the on-sale date sometime in the first quarter of 2014 approaches, the EPA has revealed the fuel economy ratings for both versions of the upcoming 2015 Kia K900 luxury sedan.

With the entry level 311-hp, 3.8-liter V-6, the 2015 Kia K900 will return 18/27/21 mpg (city/highway/combined), while the larger 420-hp, 5.0-liter V-8 returns 15/23/18 mpg. Hyundai also employs the same V-6 in the 333-hp 2014 Hyundai Genesis, where it achieves the same 18/27 mpg rating. The V-8 is also used in the 2014 Hyundai Genesis and Equus, both of which match the K900's economy ratings of 15/23 mpg. In the 2015 Kia K900, an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive pair with both direct-injected engine choices.

As the newest full-size sedan to join Kia’s lineup, joining the surprisingly competent and impressive 2014 Kia Cadenza, the 2015 Kia K900 will try to take on big-name competitors like the Audi A8, Jaguar XJ, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and BMW 7-Series. Kia’s new 311-hp 3.8-liter V-6 returns competitive gas mileage compared to other six-cylinder offerings from BMW and Audi, with a 19/29/22 mpg city/highway/combined rating for the 3.0-liter turbocharged 315-hp 2014 BMW 740i, and an 18/28/21 mpg city/highway/combined rating for the supercharged 3.0-liter 333-hp 2014 Audi A8.

Equipped with the 420-hp 5.0-liter V-8 that gets 15/23/18 mpg, the 2015 Kia K900 falls somewhat short of its eight-cylinder German competitors. The turbocharged 4.0-liter 420-hp 2014 Audi A8 returns 17/28/21 mpg city/highway/combined, while the turbocharged 4.4-liter 445-hp 2014 BMW 750i achieves 17/25/20 mpg, and the turbocharged 4.7-liter 449-hp 2014 Mercedes-Benz S550 gets a 17/25/20 mpg rating.

Pricing is not yet available for the 2015 Kia K900, but we anticipate that the V-6 will likely start around $50,000, while the top-shelf V-8 model could potentially eclipse the $70,000 mark. Be sure to check back for more updates on the upcoming 2015 Kia K900.
