2014 Nissan Rogue Select Starts at $20,850

2013 Nissan Rogue

Bargain crossover shoppers rejoice, because Nissan has just announced that the budget-priced 2014 Nissan Rogue Select starts at just $20,850 with destination. Although the Nissan Rogue was completely redesigned for 2014, the Rogue Select is actually the outgoing version of the Rogue that will continue to be offered at least through this model year.

Though this may seems like a ploy for Nissan to boost the Rogue’s sales numbers, Rogue Select shoppers can get a lot of kit for the money if they can settle for a slightly older product. The 2014 Nissan Rogue Select has a slimmed-down lineup, with only one trim level—base S—and either front- or optional all-wheel-drive for $1350. The Rogue’s starting price is $2500 less than the all-new 2014 Nissan Rogue S and $320 less than last year’s identical 2013 Nissan Rogue S. The next-cheapest compact crossover is the 2014 Mazda CX-5 which starts at $22,190 with destination.

The standard equipment list on the 2014 Nissan Rogue Select is sparse, with only things like keyless entry, a four-speaker audio system with CD and iPod integration, and a trip computer as standard. There is an $870 Convenience Package available, though, which adds a rear spoiler, Bluetooth, roof rails, a backup camera, satellite radio, and steering wheel audio controls to the Rogue Select. Features like cruise control, alloy wheels, automatic climate control, leather, and power seats are absent on the Rogue Select.

The 2014 Nissan Rogue Select soldiers on with the same 2.5-liter, 170-hp four-cylinder mated with a CVT. One major disadvantage of the Rogue Select compared with the new 2014 Nissan Rogue is in fuel economy, as the Rogue Select only achieves EPA ratings of 23/28 mpg city/highway with front-wheel-drive, compared with 26/33 mpg city/highway for the new model.

If you’re just looking for a good deal on a compact crossover, though, the 2014 Nissan Rogue Select could be for you. It is on sale now at Nissan dealerships nationwide.
