Nobody in their right mind could accuse Texas-based Hennessey Performance of resting on its laurels. Not content with the physics-defying 270.49-mph top speed record it set with the Venom GT, an even faster Hennessey Venom F5 will be arriving in 2016.
The Hennessey Venom F5 will achieve an even greater top speed thanks to increased power and reduced drag. Drag coefficient will fall from 0.44 to 0.40 following a redesigned carbon fiber body. Extra power will come as a result of a further-developed twin-turbo, 7.0-liter V-8 engine, which Hennessey says it will outfit with bigger turbos as well an upgraded fuel system and intercooler to handle the added boost. John Hennessey tells Automobile that the Venom F5 will ride on its own bespoke chassis. Total engine output is expected to eclipse an insane 1400 hp. The Venom GT, which is based on a heavily modified Lotus Exige chassis, has 1244 hp, but apparently that wasn't good enough.

As race teams have already figured out, no manual transmission can match the speed and accuracy of today’s computer-shifted transmissions. As such, a major change coming to the Hennessey Venom F5 is its new single-clutch paddle-shifted automatic transmission. Hennessey is full of car purists, however, and the company will still offer an optional manual transmission on the Hennessey Venom F5.
With a curb weight just north of the Venom GT’s, the Hennessey Venom F5 won’t exceed 2866 pounds. So let’s take stock for a minute — added power, reduced drag, a faster gearbox, and only marginally increased weight. The result? Hennessey says a top speed of 290 mph is “within reach.” Judging by the new Venom F5’s namesake, an F5-level tornado which contains winds from 261-318 mph, Hennessey may set its top speed goal even higher. At this point, it’s beyond us to put a ceiling on what these crazy Texans can cook up.
The Hennessey Venom F5 will debut in 2015, with customers taking delivery in late 2016. Hennessey will continue to sell the remaining 13 examples of its $1.25 million Venom GT until they’re gone, and 30 examples of the Hennessey Venom F5 will sell for an even loftier price tag. It seems like Hennessey’s biggest obstacle is finding a stretch of road long enough to let the latest Venom put its money where its mouth is. And we can’t wait to see when it does.
