2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Edition 30 Announced

To celebrate three decades of its GLI performance model, Volkswagen will sell an Edition 30 model of the 2014 Jetta GLI. The new sedan pays homage to the original Volkswagen Jetta GLI that was introduced to the U.S. in 1984 with a 90-hp, 1.8-liter inline-four engine, sport suspension, and other upgrades.

The 2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI still follows a similar formula as that original 1984 model, offering a more powerful engine and a sportier suspension than other versions of the Jetta; Volkswagen refers to it as a GTI in a Jetta sedan body. In today's car, a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine provides 210 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, and buyers can pick between a six-speed manual and a six-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission.

Compared to a standard 2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI, the Edition 30 adds an extra dose of visual flair in the form of a red grille accent trim, 18-inch "Laguna" alloy wheels (instead of the standard 17-inch wheels), a trunk spoiler, leatherette seats with red accents, and special Edition 30 door-sill plates. Volkswagen will also offer the Edition 30 with Navigation, an upgraded trim that adds red trim in the headlight housings, push-button start, a backup camera, and touchscreen navigation. The Edition 30 comes only in Deep Black Metallic, Pure White, Tornado Red, and Reflex Silver Metallic paint schemes.

Pricing for the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI Edition 30 will be announced closer to its on-sale date early next year. Pricing for the standard 2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI starts at $25,075, including destination, with a manual transmission.
