Prior to the issue that you hold in your hands, there have been 300 regular monthly editions of Automobile Magazine. We've picked twenty-five of our favorite covers from the past twenty-five years. How many do you remember?
Our First: April 1986
The premiere issue of Automobile Magazine featured an outrageous pairing of mid-engine sports cars from opposite ends of the spectrum. David E. Davis, Jr.'s name was used above the logo in a blurb. Headlights and a grille were incorporated in the original logo, but those elements were quickly dropped.
JULY 1987
This Ferrari GTO cover, with its bright red background, was one of only two times that we used a model on the cover. The logo had lost the grille and headlights by this point.
MAY 1988
The Callaway Corvette marked the third cover appearance of Chevrolet's sports car. There have since been twenty more.
MARCH 1989
This cover featured two of the hottest Japanese sports cars, from the era when Japanese sports cars really first got rolling. The parallelism of the two photos was repeated with two similar blurbs. Our first all-new logo had been introduced two months prior.
JANUARY 1990
The 1990 All-Stars cover featured our first-ever Automobile of the Year, the Mazda MX-5 Miata.
