The Infiniti Essence concept is supposed to look back on the 20 years of Infiniti's existence and also hint at the future of the brand. Some of Infiniti's key traits are technology, design, and performance - and the Essence embodies all three qualities.
Too much of a good thing is still . . . too much.
Who can best turn his gas guzzler into a fuel sipper on the Automobile Magazine 300-mile, L.A.-to-Lost Hills fuel-economy smackdown?

I believe Robert Cumberford would be disappointed with this Grade B effort from Infiniti - just like I am. Granted the Essence concept was to be a glimpse of Infiniti vehicles to come, but the M is a poster child for unrealized expectations. Granted it will likely have class leading performance but it will not attract buyers in its target audience - well healed buyers looking for a head turning vehicle to compete with profile cars such as the Audi A6, BMW 535, and Mercedes E Class. IMO, the Lexus GS is an after thought. Some Essence cues are present such as the high character line running the length of the car and headlights (less LED headlamps). Where's the signature feature - no trendy LED daytime running lights ala Audi-esque, nothing comparable to BMW corona headlight feature. Buyers in this class look for a signature vehicle that garners stares and opens wallets. Can I get a witness. Message to Infiniti designers - Why run a race to come in second place? Carlos G., your design team can do better this.
