The Volkswagen Cabriolet was one of the must have convertibles of the 1980s. Don't believe us, just rent a copy of any high school movie from that time period and check out the parking lots in various scenes. But nearly quarter of a decade later the German company has a V8 powered SUV and even tried its luck in the world W-12-powered luxury cars. But fans of open top VWs who don't like the retro ragtop Beetle shouldnt loose hope as the German carmaker also has an excellent hardtop convertible, the Eos.
The four-seater starts at $28,750 and is available with a 200-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder or VW's unique 3.2-liter narrow-angle V-6. If you want a manual gearbox, you must stick with the excellent inline-four engine. Those scared of a clutch pedal shouldnt worry because the available dual-clutch automatic gearbox (standard with the V-6) is very impressive. What we like most about the VW Eos is its combination of an excellent interior, impressive engine and transmissions, and competitive price. What other convertible in this class offers you a glass sunroof integrated into the foldable hardtop?
