General Motors Chevrolet and Pontiac offer an extensive selection of heritage apparel, but cherry examples are pretty scarce. An embroidered satin Camaro jacket ($55- $65) is the perfect way to roll into your next Poison concert. Or get a jump on early-'90s retro with the questionably tasteful "Bad Bow Tie" tee ($17-$19). We prefer the psychedelic "Judge" shirt ($17-$19), though. (Items available at www.chevymall.com and www.pontiacmall.com.)
Ford
For a company so steeped in retro design (Mustang, Thunderbird, GT), Ford's apparel collection is almost completely devoid of hip throwbacks. The very nice period-style Ford GT hat ($16) and the classic blue oval trucker lid ($9) are the only items we thought might have fit in on the set of Dazed and Confused. (Items available at www.fordcollection.com.)
Chrysler
Dodge and Mopar do the best job of offering cool clothes for both sexes that look as if they came straight out of a Woodward Avenue time capsule. The boss Plymouth and Dodge windbreakers from Mopar ($58-$63; $54-$59) are our favorites. The "I Get Mine from Direct Connection"T-shirt ($18) illustrates the old Mopar story. Dodge's many clock-reversing pieces include a ladies' Hemi shirt ($24). (Items available at www.goods.dodge.com and www.wearmopar.com.)
