I was sitting in Section C and sorry to say I saw most of the crash.Eddie invited us into the his garage in 63. We met him in Des Moines (Monroe meeting in April & he again invited to his garage after the race. So sorry the good ones seem to go first.  I still think of him a lot.

I was seated in the Tower Terrace Extension .My wife worked in the Infield hospital and was good friends of Johnnys future wife ,Betty Hoyer..It all happened like Johnny said, I remember McDonald sliding sideways in the flat car  and hitting the inside fence Flames everywhere and then there was the second explosion of Sachs hitting MacDonald broadside.. Drivers were diving into the dirt trying to miss the fire,,They said befor the race ,MacDonald was driving a bomb full of gasoline and was headed for disaster and as he slid across the grass , he was trying to save it, to no avail...After the race I picked up my wife at the infield hospital and you could still feel the heat from the Sachs and Mac..The thing that sticks in my mind today, thats Sachs nose was burnt clear off his face..His nose was quite famous, especially to Parnellis fist but was  one of the great ones to drive at Indy and will never be forgotten..I never thought I would remember the details so clearly after 45 years
