2010 Dodge Ram 2500
The 2010 Dodge Ram 2500 may also be called the Chrysler Ram 2500 due to some re-organization from within the Chrysler company, the old Dodge name may not be branded on this big boy toys any longer. That being said the newest Ram 2500 is one of the strongest non-commercial trucks available. The Ram 2500 can tow up to 17,300 pounds. This powerhouse of a truck offers an amazing amount of sheer power and torque provided by a Cummings Diesel engine.

The 2010 Ram 2500 even comes complete with an exhaust brake that usually is only used on big rigs, but when you are pulling a huge load this can be a very helpful feature. This truck is a capable work vehicle for almost any job and still offers the same attractive styling that the 1500 model exhibits. The Ram 2500 has a winning combination of hard working and powerful guts and a very plush interior and beautiful exterior design. The Ram 2500 will be sure to be in the head of its class for 2010 and beyond, even without the Dodge Badge.

Chrysler has issued recalls to inspect a prolonged brake lamp on pickups and HVAC drains on minivans, while Volkswagen is inspecting a number of its compact models to prevent underhood fuel leaks.
2010 Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon Promo
The 2010 Dodge Ram Power Wagon Crew Cab definitely performed admirably hauling some of my family of four's belongings from our temporary pad to our new home this weekend. The jacked-up suspension, however, results in an unwieldy load height, so entering the cabin without running boards was a challenge for everyone. I can't imagine owning this truck without adding at least a step bar.

This is one tall freakin' pickup! Like Matt, one of the most lasting impressions I have of the Power Wagon is of its extreme height. Perhaps surprisingly, then, the giant three-quarter-ton Dodge (yes, this test vehicle still has a Dodge badge on it; no "Ram" branding yet) actually drives fairly well on the highway. The 383-hp Hemi certainly helps, offering plenty of passing power. Speaking of power, I know that the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor has a totally different purpose, but I think the Power Wagon could beat it at many tasks, particularly where acceleration is concerned, even versus an upgraded 6.2-liter Raptor. And the Power Wagon would likely beat the Ford at low-speed off-road stuff, too, particularly with the help of a stock (and supercool) Warn winch.

My, how Dodge is dipping into its history books with this creation. The red-on-grey accents on the hood, rockers, and tailgate are a subtle throwback to the not-so-subtle Power Wagons of the late 1970s, but thankfully, the mechanical bits are inspired largely in part by the original postwar Power Wagon.

As Evan suggests, the Dodge Ram 2500 Power Wagon is certainly worthy of Jeep's vaunted "Trail Rated" badge. This is one of only a handful of new vehicles that you can buy with a front differential locker, and the rest of the off-road hardware is seriously impressive. However, I have to wonder how many people want to tackle the trails in a vehicle that is this big. At 17 feet, five inches in length, you'll certainly have to be an expert in picking your line down tree-lined paths or around paint-hungry boulders.

If you’ve ever owned a toy Tonka truck and had even the slightest amount of fun with it, driving a big diesel pickup is incredibly fun. Unfortunately I didn’t have a chance to pull any trailers or really do anything to make this Ram break a sweat during the few nights I had it.

Success, it seems, lurks where you’d least expect it. Twenty years ago, Chrysler partnered with Cummins to drop a turbo-diesel into its slow-selling Ram heavy-duty range. The duo expected to sell 5000 units, and instead sold nearly 20,000 in the first year.

Sure, $53,750 isn’t cheap, but this heavy-duty Ram is a pretty good value in my book. Our long-term Ram 1500 is just $1520 cheaper than this Ram HD, which packs some serious extra punch when it comes to towing and hauling capabilities. Our test truck was rated to pull 12,600 pounds or carry 2330 pounds in the bed. The ride in this truck is rather harsh compared with the crossovers and cars we’re used to, but that’s the penalty you’ll have to pay for such utility.

After having spent most of my recent diesel time in small cars such as the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, I found the Ram HD’s new Cummins turbo-diesel to be a bit noisier than I expected. Still, it's far, far quieter than those in the Heavy Duty Rams that I drove seven to ten years ago when I did endurance test-driving for Chrysler. This new leaf-sprung Ram HD rides notably harsher than the coil-sprung Ram 1500 -– not a surprise -- but it did feel quite tolerable on my commute, unlike those aforementioned Rams of yore. I’d expect that this new Ram is far more smooth riding when it’s weighted down with a load of cargo or a trailer.

On late winter nights during the magazine’s busy time, I prefer my commutes to be mindless and pampered. I wasn’t overly thrilled then, to be driving a diesel Ram out of the parking garage at 1 in the morning. But to my pleasant surprise, the heavy-duty is nearly as pleasant and easy to drive as our four-seasons Ram 1500, which is itself as luxurious smooth as some premium sedans. We’re talking heated leather seats and a very good navigation system in a truck that could tow nearly 13,000 pounds. Like Rusty, I’ve become accustomed to small, quiet diesels, but the Cummins is pretty subdued considering its capability.
