2015 Dodge Journey
2015 Dodge Journey

New for 2015

The Dodge Journey is largely unchanged for the 2015 model year.

Vehicle Overview

The Dodge Journey is a two- to three-row crossover that seats up to seven passengers. Smaller than the three-row Durango SUV and Grand Caravan minivan, the Journey is one of the least expensive three-row crossovers on the market.

Summary

The 2015 Dodge Journey standard engine is a 2.4-liter I-4 that makes 173 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque, which gets paired with a four-speed automatic and front-wheel drive, a combination that’s good for an EPA-estimated 19/26 mpg city/highway. We recommend going for the optional 283-hp 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 260 lb-ft of torque and gets paired with a six-speed automatic and can optionally be equipped with all-wheel drive. EPA-estimated for the V-6 are 17/25 mpg FWD and 16/24 mpg AWD.
While the Journey focus is attracting families who need three rows of seating but don't want the Grand Caravan, the crossover still has a few notable features, including an 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment screen, several trick hidden storage compartments (a cooler in the floor of the second row, and a flip-up compartment in the front passenger seat), versatile fold-flat seating, second-row 9-inch entertainment screen, second-row integrated child booster seats, and standard keyless entry. A third row of seats is standard on all but the base trim level.
The 2015 Dodge Journey received a four-star frontal crash rating and a four-star rollover safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS testing received four ratings of good (the highest possible rating is good).

What We Think

The only major downsides to the 2015 Dodge Journey are the cramped third-row (common for this segment), fuel economy that’s not class-leading, and an inconsistent six-speed automatic that sometimes delivers rough shifts.
Moving down the line to the more basic models does reveal some cost cutting, but it's not bad enough to make the crossover unappealing. Another plus of the option-up Limited is the 8.4-inch infotainment screen, as we noted about the smaller 4.3-inch version, “It seems to be more about jamming technology into a car than using technology to make the in-car experience any better.”
In six-cylinder guise, the Journey has always been one of those vehicles that manages to outshine its origins … it has long been one of the best fruits of Chrysler's latest midsize platform, delivering a comfortable ride, acceptable dynamics, and a fair amount of interior space.
