New for 2015

The Dodge Grand Caravan remains largely unchanged for the 2015 model year, which may be its last as the related Chrysler Town & Country continues, with the overlapping Dodge potentially discontinued.

Vehicle Overview

The Dodge Grand Caravan is a seven-passenger minivan that fits above the Durango in the automaker’s lineup. The Grand Caravan focuses more on value than its Chrysler Town & Country counterpart.

Summary

The 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan is powered by a 283-hp 3.6-liter V-6 that makes 260 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic, which is good for an EPA-estimated 17/25 mpg city/highway. Stow ‘n Go seats allow operators to switch from passenger-carrying to cargo-hauling quickly. Notable features include a 6.5-inch Uconnect infotainment screen, Blu-ray DVD system with dual 9-inch screens, heated front seats, and a heated steering wheel.
The 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan received a four-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS testing received four ratings of good and one of poor in the new – and more difficult – small overlap front category (the highest possible rating is good).

What We Think

Compared to the Chrysler Town & Country, the Grand Caravan has long been the budget van, starting in the low $20,000 range, while competition often starts closer to $30,000. The cabin isn’t hewn from the highest-quality materials, and the engine is smooth but is saddled with the wet-blanket of a six-speed automatic that likes to hold gears too long.
Despite the low price and several downsides, the Grand Caravan is a respectably good people-mover, with well-designed ergonomics (comfortable, and well-placed volume buttons on the back of the steering wheel), some actual heft to the steering and pedals, and a good ride quality all add up to, as Dodge has put it, “the right tool for the job.”
