The Mercury Milan was redesigned in 2010. It is the mechanical twin of the Ford Fusion. The Fusion was rated Car of the year by Motor Trend for 2010 and since the two are identical except for their appearance, the award applies to most of what makes up the Milan as well. The main difference between the two is the Milan’s more upscale appearance and more standard features. You won’t be likely to see a clone of your car at many stoplights due to the small production run for the current Milan’s. This is further ensured by the fact that the entire Mercury line is not long for the production world.

The base engine for the Milan is the 175 HP 2.5 liter four cylinder. A manual 6 speed transmission is standard with a 6 speed automatic available as an option. Mercury also offers a 3.0 liter V-6 making 240 HP, though it is only offered with the 6 speed automatic transmission. Rear wheel drive is standard for both engines, but an all-wheel drive system is available as an option with the V-6.

Though not a complete ground-up redesign, the 2010 Milan is heavily updated and features a new interior, new sheetmetal, and a new four-cylinder engine. Its 3.0-liter V-6 carries over, but the engine has been revised to make more power to be more competitive. The new Milan Hybrid is Mercury’s second such model and of course is also the most fuel-efficient.

Up front, the main difference between the Milan and its Fusion sibling is the Milan’s vertical grille. At rear, the Milan gets a new lower fascia and trunk lid with larger taillamps.

The Milan is all-new on the inside, with plenty of passenger room and a sizeable trunk. Options include 12-speaker Sony audio, navigation with Sirius Travel Link. Premier models come with power front seats and Sync.

The Milan’s new 2.5-liter I-4 makes a good 175 horsepower and 172 pound-feet of torque while its V-6 has been uprated to 240 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. The base model can be had with a six-speed manual transmission, albeit with a slight fuel-economy penalty. The Hybrid model, meanwhile, achieves subcompact-like fuel economy.

Six airbags are standard along with seatbelt pretensioners. Rear-view camera, reverse sensors, and a blind spot detection system are available to help minimize the chances of a parking incident or merging accident.
