The S Automatic coupe has been replaced by the more powerful Sport coupe. The 4.7-liter V-8 gets a 10-hp boost, so it’s now available in 444- and 454-hp versions. The seats are newly designed with integral headrests. Sport models get a bolder front fascia. Front parking sensors are now standard on all but the MC. Brake calipers can now be painted matte blue (in addition to eight other options), and there’s a new light-blue exterior color called sofisticato.


With the GranTurismo, Maserati has a stunning coupe and a convertible that live up to the brand’s billing as a highly satisfying consolation prize to people who perhaps wanted a Ferrari. This exotic Italian has smoldering curves, a leather-lined interior with the proper aroma of luxury, and an exquisite sound that comes from a Ferrari-engineered 4.7-liter V-8. For 2013, the 433-hp S Automatic coupe—last year’s base model—has been dropped, so the “cheapest” model is the new Sport coupe, which costs a pretty reasonable $129,500 when you consider its style, performance, and exclusivity. The base convertible costs $12,300 more, and it’s the Maserati two-door with the lowest horsepower rating. The Sport coupe’s 454-hp rating matches that of the MC coupe and Sport convertible, both of which were new for 2012. The Sport coupe could make the MC a tougher sell: the $16,900-pricier MC essentially adds only a nonadaptive suspension and cosmetic flair. The $146,400 Sport convertible has most of the MC’s goodies but doesn’t offer its less-forgiving fixed-rate standard suspension. The GranTurismo is really too big and heavy to be a racetrack star, but it excels at being sexy, sounds amazing, and is a comfortable grand tourer for four people while being quicker and faster than almost anything else on the street.


Front, front side, and side curtain air bags are standard, along with ABS, traction and stability control, a limited-slip differential, hydraulic brake assist, and tire-pressure monitors.
