New for 2015
The 2015 Audi A6 makes some previously optional features standard. A refreshed model is coming for the 2016 model year.
The Audi A6 is a midsize luxury sedan that fits above the A4 sedan and below the A7 four-door hatchback in the automaker’s four-door lineup.
The 2015 Audi A6 is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 that makes 220 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which can be paired with a CVT that drives the front wheels or an eight-speed automatic that drives all-four wheels. EPA-estimated fuel economy is 25/33 mpg city/highway with the CVT and 20/29 mpg with the eight-speed. A supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 310 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque and gets paired with an eight-speed automatic and AWD for an
EPA-estimate of 18/28 mpg. Buyers who want to maximize fuel economy can opt for the turbodiesel 3.0-liter V-6 that makes 240 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque that also gets an eight-speed automatic, which is good for an EPA-estimated 24/38 mpg. The sporting S6 is powered by a 420-hp twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 that makes 406 lb-ft of torque, gets the excellent seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, AWD, and an EPA-rating of 17/27 mpg.
Some of the most notable features on the 2015 A6 include LED headlights and accents, four-zone climate control, 7-inch driver information screen, a head-up display, corner view cameras (front and rear to aid in parking and when pulling out into traffic), a top view camera system, night vision (infrared camera and thermal imaging with the ability to recognize pedestrians within 300 feet), Audi side assist with pre sense rear (blind spot warning), and adaptive cruise control with stop and go capability.
The 2015 Audi A6/S6 received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA (out of a possible five stars), and in IIHS testing received four ratings of good (the highest possible rating is good).
What We Think
The 2015 Audi A6 has easily one of the best interiors in the segment, and boasts an incredible suite of technology and connectivity. As we said in an Editor’s Notebook review of a 2012 A6, “Audi has done a fantastic job of riding the fine line that separates comfort and sport.” We heaped praises on the interior, and the Google Earth integration, comparing the level of quality to Audi’s own flagship, the A8. We liked the full-LED headlights noting that they “cut a bright, blue light through the night, and the high beams douse even the darkest sylvan roads in near-daylight.”
Power from the supercharged V-6 is either smooth and refined, or spirited and agile with the eight-speed firing off “some of the quickest, crispest shifts in any car.” The only things we could find wrong with the A6 was the relative lack of character when compared with its Infiniti and Jaguar competition, and the fact that it’s often hard to distinguish from an A4.
