New For 2013

There isn’t much news for 2013, as an all-new CTS is due for 2014. Non-V models receive yet another subtle tweak to the grille, adaptive vehicle remote starting is standard, and there are three new exterior colors: glacier blue metallic, summer gold metallic, and silver coast metallic. Glacier blue is also an option on the 2013 CTS-V sedan and coupe, and two-piece brake rotors are now standard.

Overview

Three body styles are available—sedan, coupe, and wagon—and all can be had in regular CTS form or in ludicrous but intoxicating CTS-V trim. There are two V-6 engines available: a 3.0-liter unit in the sedan and wagon and a very capable 3.6-liter V-6 available in all three body styles. The 3.6-liter can be found throughout GM’s vehicle lineup, and that’s not a bad thing—its power delivery is smooth and linear and it returns good fuel economy. For those who have a need for speed, look to the CTS-V. Using a modified version of the 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 in the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, Brembo brakes, nineteen-inch forged aluminum wheels, and adjustable magnetic dampers, the CTS-V is one of the best cars to come out of Detroit. The tailpipes of the CTS-V—large, chrome, and center-mounted on the V coupe—emit a guttural, growling exhaust note that will let passersby know that this is not your father’s Cadillac. In any form, the CTS is a credible player in the sport luxury market, thanks to its crisp, distinct design and a level of quality, fit, and finish that had long been missing on products from domestic automakers. Supple french-stitched leather, soft LED lighting, and intuitive controls live in harmony in the well-crafted cabin.

Safety

Standard equipment includes front, side, and side curtain air bags; stability and traction control; Ultrasonic rear parking sensors (a backup camera is optional); OnStar telematics with automatic crash notification and emergency services; and a tire-pressure monitoring system. Blind-zone alert is standard on coupe models.

2013 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Front Right View 2
Give Cadillac credit for taking on the European premium marques in a segment that they've pretty much owned up 'til now -- the luxury wagon. In fact, it would have been easy for Cadillac to forgo this body style altogether, given that the SRX crossover checks many of the same boxes as the wagon, on paper at least.

2014 GM LF3 Twin Turbo V 6 5
DETROIT – Cadillac will fill the gap between the naturally aspirated, 3.6-liter CTS and supercharged CTS-V with a 420-horsepower, 430 pound-foot twin-turbo 3.6 V-6 engine. The new engine will be officially unveiled at the New York International Auto Show later this month and premiers in the 2014 Cadillac CTS that goes on sale this fall. The new engine is the highest-output V-6 in General Motors history; its specific output of 118 horsepower per liter trumps BMW's twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8, which makes just 91 horsepower per liter.

Summary
This defect can affect the safe operation of the airbag system. Until this recall is performed, customers should remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the ignition key. The key fob (if applicable), should also be removed from the key ring. General Motors LLC (GM) notified the agency on July 2, 2014 that they are recalling 554,328 model year 2003-2014 Cadillac CTS vehicles manufactured August 16, 2001, to April 28, 2014, and 2004-2006 Cadillac SRX vehicles manufactured March 20, 2003, to August 11, 2006. In these models, the weight on the key ring and/or road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine.
Consequences
If the key is not in the run position, the air bags may not deploy if the vehicle is involved in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.
Remedy
GM will notify owners, and dealers will install two key rings and an insert in the key slot or a cover over the key head on all ignition keys, free of charge. The recall began on September 15, 2014. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is 14172.
