2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo Details Released Before 2013 Tokyo Show

The Nissan GT-R has a successful history of challenging other supercars at a price point many times more affordable than its competitors, and the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo is no different. Deriving its inspiration from the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3 that competed earlier this year at the 24-hour Nürburgring race, this new road-going GT-R Nismo is loaded with a slew of performance upgrades that are sure to shock and awe in true Godzilla fashion.

Power from the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo’s 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-6 is aplenty. Bigger turbos usually used for GT3 racing and optimized ignition timing push output to 600 hp with 480 lb-ft of torque — up from the 545 hp and 463 lb-ft of torque in the stock GT-R. All of this power is now available at 6800 rpm, 400 revs higher than in the standard model. In short, this car should be even more manic on the track.

The 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo features an adhesively bonded body shell and 17.3 mm hollow rear anti-roll bar for improved stiffness and weight reduction. The suspension setup is based on the class-winning Nissan GT-R that entered the 24-hour Nürburgring race in 2012, and it utilizes custom Bilstein dampers and springs in the front and rear, with specially-developed links for the front double wishbone that help maintain wheel position and stability.

Clad in a traditional red, white, and black exterior, the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo definitely looks more beastly. Wider bumpers, a huge carbon trunk-mounted spoiler, and large lower front undercover make for a fearsome and aggressive look that also delivers on performance; the exterior modifications combine to help achieve 220 additional pounds of downforce when traveling at 186 mph. Dark Matte Grey paint will also be available as a new paint option unique to the GT-R Nismo, which Nissan says will heighten the car’s imposing and muscular presence.

Inside the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo, weight reducing materials like Alcantara and carbon-fiber pervade. Red-stitching lines the carbon-fiber-backed Recaro sport seats as well as the three-spoke Alcantara steering wheel, helping echo the high-performance styling on the GT-R Nismo’s exterior. Drivers can also download on-track performance from Nissan’s connected services advanced performance telemetry system.

Available in 2014 in the U.S., Japan, and Eurpe, the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo will be the highest-performance version of the GT-R, positioned above the Black Edition and Track Edition variants. Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn is expected to announce further details such as official lap times and pricing for the GT-R Nismo when the vehicle is unveiled at Nissan headquarters in Yokohama, Japan, one day in advance of the 2013 Tokyo auto show opening on November 20th.

The back end of the car is iconic and looks great. It's the dorky melted econo car looking front end that let's it down...even with all the Nismo makeup. It needs a more chiseled nose with more expensive looking headlights.
