General Motors The General brought a whole army to this year's show, showing off the best of each division. In addition to the wilder concepts shown here, GM displayed many useful real world accessories. You can find a full list of products for your GM vehicle at GM Goodwrench
Chevrolet
Chevy's Cobalt SS Bonneville Speedster is a sequel to last year's Saturn Ion Red Line, with the main difference being that this car actually looks good. GM's Ecotec 2.0 liter has been pushed to its limits, with a claimed 700+ hp number. Can the first Chevy SS salt flats racer beat the Ion's 212.684 mph numbers from last year? We shall see.
Another exciting Cobalt at this year's show is the 272 SS coupe. Using the Cobalt SS (coming to dealerships in the next few months) as a basis, this supercharged and intercooled Chevy achieves an impressive 270 hp out of the 2.0-liter Ecotec engine. Chevy also lowered the car 1.6 inches and threw on 19" wheels and tires.
Chevy's Colorado SS compact truck enthusiasts dream about. Larger brakes, a floor shifter, a new rear axle, and 20" wheels make this one hot little truck. And let us not forget about the 400hp LS2 V-8 the bowtie guys squeezed under the hood. If only Chevy would make a real Lightning/ SRT-10 Competitor...
For those who prefer full-size trucks, Chevy was also featuring a few Silverados, including this NASCAR-looking "Speedway Edition." To achieve the race-truck look, Chevy added a unique front fascia, NASCAR-style 6-lug wheels, side-exit exhaust, and racing buckets inside. With bright red paint this truck looks great, whether at SEMA, on a race track, or on the street.
Chevy is making their Malibu Maxx rather Opel-like with this Cross Country version of their mid-size wagon. The stock 3.5-liter V-6 has been replaced by a specially tuned 3.9-liter putting out 240 hp. And in regular SEMA fashion, wheels, brakes, and suspension have all been upgraded.
The Bonneville SSR plays two different roles. First, it is the push truck that will help the high ratio gearing of the Cobalt get moving a bit faster from a stop. More importantly though, is its role in showing the shape of things to come. This SSR features a 390-hp 6.0-liter and Tremec M10 6-speed manual transmission, both of which will soon be included in stock SSRs; hopefully this combo will provide a bit more fun that the underpowered, overweight SSR we have now.
There's more to this Vette than a hot Competition Yellow paint job and carbon fiber wing and body kit. The LS2 under the hood features machined heads, raising output to 425 hp. A shorter throw shifter has been added to the Tremec 6-speed, and the brakes have been upgraded with cross-drilled rotors. The stock Z51 suspension is upgraded with heavier spring rates, larger diameter anti-roll bars, adjustable dampers and high-rate bushings.
Pontiac
The bright orange paint and hood scoops an the Pontiac GTO Ram Air 6 take us back to what is surely the coolest package in Pontiac history: The Judge Package. It was last seen on second generation GTOs of the late 1960's, and we are happy to see Pontiac returning to better times. This car was first seen at the Woodward Dream Cruise as an "employee enthusiasm" concept.
Pontiac unveiled a G6 GXP show vehicle, hinting at a possible high-performance direction for the new sedan. The G6 GXP concept is powered by a 3.6-liter HO V-6 producing 275 horsepower and backed by a close-ratio six-speed manual transmission. Although just a concept, the G6 GXP will be used to gauge opinions about the viability of a high-performance version of the new G6. Similar clinic testing with the Bonneville GXP and Grand Prix GXP concepts resulted in green lights for production. The Bonneville GXP now accounts for about 30 percent of all Bonneville sales and the Grand Prix GXP is scheduled to start production in 2005.
Cadillac
The Cadillac SRX Sport is a new version of the award-winning SRX. Aggressive exterior front and rear fascias, a special grille, 20-inch wheels/tires, and exhaust tips give the SRX a look that matches its already dynamic performance. Planned for sale in the near future, the SRX Sport features several Cadillac accessories including a carbon fiber underhood engine cover, a Corsa cat-back performance exhaust system, and V-Series Brembo brake system with cross-drilled rotors. What is best is that these accessories are covered under Cadillac's 5-year, 60,000 mile warranty.
MHT wheels featured this sweet two-tone Cadillac SRX with matching red and chrome wheels, and a few bikes on top, just for fun. You can find more MHT products at MHT Wheels
And similarly cool was this XLR, one of only a few at the show, featuring black and gray paint and again, red and chrome wheels.
