Report: 2015 BMW X4 To Debut At 2014 New York Auto Show

#BMW, #X4

BMW will further expand its crossover lineup by launching the 2015 BMW X4 at the 2014 New York auto show in April. Autocar reports that the 2015 BMW X4 will be followed by a refreshed version of the X3 crossover, and that later in 2014 BMW will also update its X6, as well as the X5 M and X6 M performance models.

The 2015 BMW X4 was first previewed as the Concept X4 shown earlier this year. It will be a more graceful, coupe-like take on the X3 crossover. Its naming convention follows that of the BMW 3 Series sedan and 4 Series coupe/convertible, where even-numbered BMWs generally have more coupe-like rooflines. Autocar reports that at the same time the X4 debuts at the New York auto show, the BMW X3 will be refreshed with a matching front-end treatment.

As our spy photos show, the production 2015 BMW X4 will probably look very similar to that concept model. The front half of the crossover closely mirrors the standard X3, but aft of the B-pillar the roof forms a marked curve that dives toward the car's tail. Power choices are expected to mirror those of the BMW X3: a 2.0-liter turbo-four with 240 hp and a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 300 hp, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Later, BMW will reportedly follow those models with a renewed X6 crossover that will debut in August at the Moscow auto show. The present X6 "Sports Activity Coupe" is the second worst-selling BMW in the U.S. market, after the Z4 sports car, with only 4827 units sold through the first 11 months in 2013. Later in the year, new versions of the BMW X5 M and X6 M performance models will be launched, with updated versions of the twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 engine producing more than 555 hp. Last year, we spotted an X5 M testing on the Nürburgring in Germany.
