The ESV is simply the Cadillac version of the Chevy Suburban--although the Cadillac is now further differentiated from its more prosaic stablemate by unique sheetmetal, a much more upscale interior, and standard eighteen-inch wheels and tires, with the option of factory-supplied twenty-twos if you don't care for the aftermarket. Like the Suburban, the ESV rides on a 130-inch wheelbase and a heavily revised, stiffened, and fully boxed frame. There is a new coil-over-damper front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering, while the five-link live rear axle is retained and refined. Power comes from a 403-hp 6.2-liter OHV V-8 mated to a new six-speed automatic transmission. The exterior features the biggest Caddy grille of all time--it would make a '60 Eldo blush--while the interior is truly luxurious. There is leather and wood everywhere, and the available second-row DVD entertainment system is joined by another one for the third-row occupants. The driver, sadly, must go without his or her own TV.
