Bugatti is now halfway through its six-part “Legends of Bugatti” series, and the French supercar brand is poised to present the line’s fourth model at the 2014 Geneva auto show. Bugatti will build just three examples of the new Rembrandt Bugatti Legend car, which will continue to be based on the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse convertible.
The latest Bugatti Legend car will be named after the brother of company founder Ettore Bugatti, Rembrandt Bugatti, who was also a significant 20th century sculptor. The radiator decoration on the old Bugatti Type 41 Royale featured a dancing elephant, referring to one of Rembrandt’s most important works. On the sculptor’s namesake Legends car, the driver will be greeted by a cast-bronze dancing elephant integrated into the rear center box between the seats. We imagine it’s the only example of an elephant traveling 254 mph on the ground.
In homage to Rembrandt Bugatti’s preferred medium of bronze, the new Legend car’s exterior made from bronze-colored clear-coated carbon. The supercar’s lower half is painted in a lighter “Noix” brown, which creates a warm contrast with the dark upper half. Rembrandt Bugatti’s signature is lasered onto the gas cap as the finishing touch.
All of the first three “Legends of Bugatti” models — the Jean-Pierre Wimille, Jean Bugatti, and Meo Constantini editions — are now fully sold out. The last of these special-edition Bugatti Veyron models, the Meo Constantini, debuted at the Dubai auto show in November and took just a few months to sell out. If you happen to have just under $3 million, love three-of-a-kind French supercars that can sprint to 62 mph in 2.6 seconds, and don’t mind the efficiency disadvantages of a 1200-hp 8.0-liter quad-turbo W-16 engine, you should act fast.
There are as of now less than 45 unsold Veyrons (out of the total 450 units built), all of them Grand Sport Vitesse convertibles. Many different theories have floated around about how Bugatti will move forward once the Veyron finally sells out, although we do know that the Bugatti Galibier ultra-luxury super sedan is now cancelled.
Whatever Bugatti has planned for the future, you can bet it will be even crazier than the Veyron. If the rumored 1600-hp “SuperVeyron” ever comes to production, it could sprint to 60 mph in 1.8 seconds thanks to a retuned 8.0- or 9.6-liter W-16 engine.
