Honda Civic Type R Concept Teased Ahead of 2014 Geneva Auto Show

Honda Civic Type R Concept Rendering Rear Three Quarter

Honda already promised that the next-generation Honda Civic Type R would arrive in 2015, and we’ll get our first look at its styling with the debut of the Honda Civic Type R concept next month. Anticipation has built up considerably since rumors first began to circulate about a replacement for the Civic Type R that went out of production in 2010, and the reveal of Honda’s concept version should attract a lot of attention at the 2014 Geneva auto show.

Based on the Euro-spec Honda Civic hatchback platform, the production Honda Civic Type R will be a veritable race car for the street. Honda previously confirmed that the Civic Type R will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, unlike the naturally aspirated 2.0-liter in the old model, that is capable of at least 276 hp. With that kind of power on board, Honda has publicly stated that it's shooting for the best Nürburgring lap time for a front-wheel-drive production car. Spy photographers caught Civic Type R prototypes testing around the German track on more than one occasion (pictured), and Honda appears poised to break the previous record of 8:08 set by the Renault Megane 265 Trophy in 2011.

The Honda Civic Type R concept will bow at Geneva with a complete performance body kit. From the rear, the three-door hatchback boasts a huge carbon fiber spoiler with integrated rear taillamps, deep vertical air scoops in the bumper, quad exhaust built into the divided rear diffuser, and widened rear fenders. Flared wheel arches flow into a sharply outlined set of side skirts, which settle into narrow side scoops behind the modern-styled five-spoke front wheels. Although Honda has only released this one teaser photo, our spy shots have indicated that this treatment continues on the vehicle’s front with a pronounced front spoiler and gaping front intakes.

The Honda Civic Type R concept will debut at the 2014 Geneva auto show alongside the FCEV and NSX concepts. Neither an official on-sale date nor a price is confirmed for now, but expect the finalized Civic Type R to arrive in 2015 for the Japanese and European markets.

I would definitely buy the car in the first pic with the awesome design of the rear wing. This wing shows the definition of the car and all the curves that the eye would otherwise miss. Build and sell that exact car and you can add my name to the waiting list.

The artist's rendering looks comparably different from the test mule shown in the photos. I would like to see the spoiler shown in the drawing on a production model, I don't know if any production car has had it's tail lights integrated into the spoiler.
