2016 Audi TT Teased in Video

We’re getting our best look yet of the 2016 Audi TT thanks to a video released by Audi ahead of the sports coupe’s debut at next week's 2014 Geneva auto show. The brief glimpses we see of the new TT show that its design closely follows the sketches of the car we saw last week, in addition to the look of the Audi Allroad Shooting Brake concept from the 2014 Detroit auto show.

The video shows quick clips of the 2016 Audi TT’s development, with designers sketching interiors and engineers molding body panels. Then we get glimpses at the final product, with a shot of the front fender, the rear fender, and the TT’s signature circular metal gas cap. Overall we’re not too surprised with the production car, as it displays the same angular headlights, rounded fender flares, and side character line as the concept and sketches that preceded it.

This new, more aggressive-looking Audi TT will also go in a different direction on the inside. We saw the TT’s interior at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, and it is a dramatic departure from current Audi interiors. Instead of a central MMI infotainment interface, the gauge cluster becomes a large multifunction LCD screen that displays navigation, and audio information alongside digital gauges like a speedometer and tachometer.

We expect to hear more information about the 2016 Audi TT closer to its debut next week, but we expect it to debut with a version of the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that can be found in many other Volkswagen Group products. Quattro all-wheel drive is a sure bet, as is an optional dual-clutch DSG transmission. Higher performance variants like a TTS and TT RS are likely to follow after the standard car’s debut.

The 2016 Audi TT should arrive in the U.S. sometime in 2015 after going on sale in Europe later this year.
