First Look: Nissan Invitation Concept

Yes, the Nissan Invitation, which debuted today at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, is technically a concept - but officials have already confirmed the vehicle will be going into production in short order.

Nissan isn't saying very much about the Invitation concept that it didn't previously hint at. The automaker maintains the Invitation previews its next "mainstream B-segment contender. Powertrain details are also lacking, but Nissan says the completed vehicle should be able to emit no more than 100 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

At this point, the only firm numbers are tied to the car's European production future. Nissan announced it's spending nearly $200 million to build the Invitation (assuming that name carries through to production) alongside the Juke at its plant in Sunderland, England. Nissan expects to sell 100,000 units annually, and expects Invitation production to create 2000 new jobs in the United Kingdom's automotive sector, including 400 new positions at the Sunderland plant itself.
