For the more civilized BMW driver, German manufacturer Alpina claims unparalleled luxury and comfort with all the performance of BMW M-division cars. Its latest efforts are the B5 and B7, both powered by the same 4.4-liter V-8 found under the hood of BMW's 545i and 745i, but with a radial compressor-type supercharger. The result: output is up to an M5-matching 500 horsepower, and even more impressive, torque is boosted to 516 lb-ft, compared to the M5's paltry 384 lb-ft. Even though the B5's automatic transmission adds extra weight, M5 drivers would have push every shift to the rev limiter to keep up. And the B7 would easily leave any 7-series in a cloud of tire smoke. Now Bimmer fans can enjoy the torque previously exclusive to Mercedes-Benz AMG models.
