Renault Clio Renaultsport Concept

Americans have never come close to matching Europeans' hysteria for hot hatches, and, as a result, very few three- and five-door rockets make their way onto American soil. Sure, we have the Volkswagen GTI and the Mini Cooper S, but if you really want to experience pint-sized performance, you need to check out what's cooking in the Old World.

Renault Egeus Concept

With Renault's lineup primarily comprised of passenger cars, space vans, and commercial-type vehicles such as the Kangoo, there is plenty of space to slot in a crossover or small SUV, and this handsome Egeus concept marks Renault's most recent exploration of that theme.

2006 Opel Vectra and Signum

GM would like us to believe that these are all-new models, but essentially this is just a mid-cycle freshening of Europe's best-selling mid-size sedan. (See, GM can beat the Japanese).

2006 Nissan Micra C+C

The Micra C+C is the latest in a rash of folding-roof coupe/cabriolets hitting European streets. The C+C does have a slight twist, though, because the folding roof isn't metal, but glass. It takes 22 seconds for the roof to fold under the double-hinged trunk lid.

2006 Nissan Micra 160SR

The Micra is a cool small car, but it hardly oozes with driver appeal. Nissan wants to change that with the sporty SR, which uses a brand-new DOHC, 16-valve, 1.6-liter in-line four-cylinder engine that produces 109 hp and 113 lb-ft of torque. Nissan claims that the car will reach 114 mph and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 9.8 seconds.

2006 Skoda Octavia RS

In an effort to inject some sex appeal into its Octavia line, Skoda is introducing sporty RS versions of both the Octavia wagon and sedan. Featuring sport suspensions, the two cars are powered by the VW Group's familiar 197-hp 2.0-liter turbo four, endowing the sedan with a top speed of 149 mph and a 0-to-62-mph time of 7.3 seconds.

Ford Iosis Concept

Unlike the SAV concept--Ford's 2005 Geneva auto show exercise unveiled earlier this year--the swoopy Ford Iosis concept is quite far from production-ready. The sedan with gull-wing doors and intricate and expensive details is said to be a preview of the "kinetic design" direction that future European Fords will embody.
