Maserati just can't let the Quattroporte be. Last year we were given two new versions of the supersedan, the Executive GT and the Sport GT. Now - just in time for the Frankfurt Auto Show - Maserati is putting the finishing touches on the Sport GT S, which will be the ultimate expression of sportiness.
The new car will look and drive much more aggressively than its predecessors. Maserati has lowered the GT S by 0.4 inches in the front and 0.98 inches in the back. The springs and dampers have also been upgraded to give a stiffer, more responsive ride. On the outside, the whole car has been given a coat of glossy black paint, including the chrome grill and quad exhaust pipes. The new car rides on dark-chrome twenty-inch, seven-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside the car are more improvements. The seats have been redesigned to be more comfortable and also given alcantra inserts. Carbon fiber and aluminum covers the dashboard to complete the sporty look.
A new braking system is the biggest innovation. The GT S uses dual-cast brake discs, which are made of both cast iron and aluminum. This improves performance and provides better resistance to fade under heavy braking.
We won't really know how much of a difference Maserati's tinkering has made until we get behind the wheel. By that time we will almost certainly be drooling over the newer and yet sportier Quattroporte Sport GT S R.
