Kia GT4 Stinger Concept Teased Again Before 2014 Detroit Auto Show

Kia today released a new teaser photo and more details on the GT4 Stinger, a concept car that the Korean automaker will introduce at the 2014 Detroit auto show. The latest teaser photo finally provides a clear view of the Kia GT4 Stinger concept from above, highlighting the car's flared fenders, narrow coupe cockpit, rounded nose, and wraparound windshield.

In addition to showing the car more clearly, Kia today revealed that the GT4 Stinger rides on a "custom" rear-wheel-drive chassis with an independent suspension and 20-inch wheels made of aluminum and carbon fiber to save weight. Brembo Gran Turismo brakes, with cross-drilled rotors and two-piece brake calipers, hide behind the 275/35/R20 Pirelli P-Zero performance tires. The car will also use a six-speed manual transmission.

Kia previously said that the GT4 Stinger concept car is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine rated for 315 hp. That will put the GT4 Stinger up one class, in terms of both size and power, compared to the Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S twins. It's clear, however, from the low hood, rounded nose, and narrow cabin that the Kia's styling was inspired by that of the BRZ/FR-S twins.

Styling-wise, the Kia GT4 Stinger could be a traditional coupe, or it may have a hatchback design similar to cars like the Nissan 370Z. Out front, look for prominent LED running lights, a carbon-fiber splitter, and air ducts to cool the front brakes.

The Kia GT4 Stinger will make its public debut on Monday, January 13, at the 2014 Detroit auto show.
