While increasingly cash-strapped Ford might be better served entering a partnership with Donald Trump or Warren Buffett--the Blue Oval could sure use the loot--we're glad they hooked up with Airstream for this funky-cool concept.
Influenced by both obvious--Airstream trailers--and not-so-obvious sources--Stanley Kubrick's masterful film, 2001: A Space Odyssey--the Ford Airstream concept gets its power from a plug-in hydrogen fuel-cell hybrid setup. The system runs on electricity 100 percent of the time and, unlike most of today's fuel cells, is able to operate in the frigid temperatures of the frostiest winters.
Crack open the shiny exterior, and you'll find an inviting cabin with pod chairs up front and sofa-like seating in the back. A dashboard-mounted, dual-view screen relays information as well as images from exterior cameras to the driver while allowing the front passenger to watch DVDs or, according to Ford, "post mobile blogs." (Movies, we get. But do we really need to update everyone with what happened on the way to work?) Rear occupants get their jollys from a cylindrical, 360-degree screen that displays video games and other entertainment.
