Jaguar adds some much-needed bling-bling to its XJ sedan with the new top-of-the-line XJ Super V8 Portfolio, which goes on sale in August. The Portfolio takes the Super V8--the supercharged, extended-wheelbase version of the XJ--as its starting point. Large, polished aluminum vents in the front fenders; twenty-inch alloy wheels; and a silver mesh grille dress up the outside. Inside, we find more sumptuous leather; an Alcantara (faux suede) headliner; dual, power-adjustable rear seats; a rear-seat DVD player with two screens; a high-end Alpine surround-sound audio system; and Bluetooth cell phone connectivity. Separating the two is laminated side glass. The supercharged, 4.2-liter V-8's 400 hp is 10 hp more than last year, and Jaguar claims it can send the extended-wheelbase XJ from 0 to 60 mph in less than 5 seconds, which ought to be quick enough to shake those annoying paparazzi. Since its launch late in 2003, the XJ has been criticized for its staid design, which looks too much like the previous model. This extra-flashy version, previewed as the Concept Eight at last year's New York show, should help get the XJ noticed in the right circles. With the Super V8 priced at $89,995, the Portfolio could kiss the six-figure mark. If you've got it, flaunt it.
