The outgoing Diamante is a likable enough sedan, well-built, nicely equipped, comfortable, and not too shabby on the road. Unfortunately, its fairly anonymous styling has made it pretty much invisible to shoppers in the entry-luxury segment. For 2004, Mitsubishi aims to put its flagship back on radar screens by giving it a fresh face. The '04 Diamante features an aggressive front-end treatment that seems more than a little inspired by the new Nissan Maxima, one of its prime rivals. Inside, there is a handsomely redesigned instrument panel and a new center console. Like all face-lifts, there's no additional substance to balance the newfound style, but the new Diamante is a solid effort nonetheless.
