Looking like a cross between a first-generation Dodge Caravan and the current Eurovan, the Multivan is VW's interpretation of the full-size van. Aging hippies will be pleased that VW intends to sell the Multivan here. It also provides the underpinnings for the upcoming Microbus (which won't be so micro, bearing in mind the Multivan's 193-inch overall length). Inside, the most interesting features are the full-length tracks in the passenger compartment, which allow the seatscenter captain's chairs and either rear chairs or a benchto slide along. Depending on trim, the center seats swivel, while uplevel models get a sliding and folding table. There's even a camper bed option. There are five engines, ranging from a 1.9-liter 103-hp diesel to a 227-hp 3.2-liter V-6, but we'll get only the V-6.
BOTTOM LINE: Magic Bus.
