The good news: Porsche is now accepting deposits on the Carrera GT supercar. The not-so-good news: Its base price is $420,000, and the economy ain't what it was when the concept debuted two and a half years ago. But if you can come up with the money, you get to join an exclusive club of lucky sods (production will be limited to 1500 units). Powering the car is a 603-horsepower, 5.7-liter V-10 engine that only needs to move 3043 pounds of vehicular mass. Engineers minimized weight through innovations like a monococque chassis made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. According to Porsche, the Carrera GT will scream from a standing start to 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 205 mph.
BOTTOM LINE: Sure, it;s expensive. But the ceramic clutch should last a lifetime.
