Bugatti showed the production Veyron coupe at Geneva, although only the eagle-eyed would notice the difference between it and the concept shown two years ago at Frankfurt. The color was changed to a very tasteful gray on gray, and the wheel design was mildly altered. Mechanically, nothing has changed: The Veyron retains it 7993-cc quad-turbocharged W-16 engine that makes 987 hp and 923 pound-feet of torque. All that tractive effort gets to the ground via an all-wheel-drive system, a seven-speed sequential gearbox, and monster 265-section front and 365-section rear tires on 20.6-inch-diameter wheels. It is quite exquisite inside, as you might imagine for a car costing about $1 million. (Yep, you read that correctly.) Bugatti claims that its monster will accelerate from 0 to 186 mph in less than 14 seconds (!!) and reach 252 mph (!!!).
BOTTOM LINE: Ferdinand Piech's pipe dream becomes reality.
