The 3 is the first car to go on sale that uses Ford's company-wide small car platform, which is the basis of the new Volvo S40 and upcoming Focus. It looks similar to the concept seen at the Geneva Show and has a multi-link rear suspension along with a front MacPherson strut arrangement. European 3s are available with a 104-hp 1.6-liter in-line four or a 148-hp 2.0-liter four: the 1.6 has a manu-matic four-speed or five speed manual transmission, but the 2.0 comes only with a five-speed stick. Initial reports say that the good looking hatchback handles really well, has superior quality, and goes really well. If it builds on the 6, we look forward to driving it.
