Moray Callum, Mazda's design director, says "If the Kusabi shocks people, then that's good." The Kusabi, which is based on the Mazda2, is a pure concept car, showing a direction Mazda could go if it wanted. In this case, that's a small two door, 2+2 seater with a split rear hatchback. The fender flares hint at a direction Mazda will use for its sporty cars, first seen on the production RX-8. The car uses a 109-hp common rail diesel engine mated to a six-speed manu-matic transmission. One of the coolest features is the interior illumination, which makes the door panels look like the bar of the hippest hotel in New York.
