The new Mustang is still months away from dealerships, but Ford needed something to celebrate the car's fortieth anniversary, not to mention four decades of Mustang racing. Hence the GT-R concept, which has a 440-hp, 5.0-liter "Cammer" crate engine from Ford Racing Performance Parts under its black carbon fiber hood and a Valencia orange paint job inspired by the orange 1970 Mustang Boss 302 Trans-Am race cars, affectionately known as the Yellow Mustangs. The GT-R uses 85 percent of the 2005 Mustang's body shell and, Ford says, points the way toward an actual future model that could be sold to grassroots racing teams.
